Auction FAQs

Q: What is the 2020 Auction?

A: The 2020 Auction is an event organized by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to raise money for the students of University Park Elementary School. The money we raise will go directly to paying the salaries of 2.5 classroom teachers to help maintain our low classroom sizes. It typically consists of a week-long online auction followed by a gala event with a silent auction, a live auction, games, and a paddle raiser. Our goal is to raise $77,000 this year.

Current events have forced us to cancel our in-person gala, but we are replacing it with a live-streaming finale event that will be emceed by 93.3 radio DJ, and UPark parent, Steve Burrell.

The auction schedule is now as follows:

  • Online Auction: opens April 24th at 9 am closes April 30th
  • Live-Streaming Auction Finale Via Zoom – Thursday, April 30th at 7pm

Q: Why don’t you just reschedule the Auction to the fall, rather than moving it all online?

A: The PTA’s fundraising dollars are used to pay for 2.5 additional teacher salaries each year, allowing UPark to maintain the small class sizes that are so important to our students’ success! The PTA relies on just two major fundraisers each year (the other being the fall Apple Campaign). Since the Apple Campaign and the Auction are both vital to the PTA’s ability to raise the needed funds, and since it’s not realistic to make both fundraising asks of our community at the same time in the fall, we have decided to move forward with a modified version of the Auction this spring. As they say in show business, the Auction must go on.

We have given this decision a great deal of consideration, and we will be following a model that a number of other schools have been successful with in recent weeks. Additionally, we are working with an experienced tech team to make it happen.
