UPark is successful because of the involvement of dedicated parents, grandparents, and community members. Learn more about ways to get involved in UPark.
Most teachers have volunteer requests for their individual classrooms so work with your child’s teacher to find out information on volunteering in the classroom. If you plan on being a regular volunteer at the school, DPS requires you to fill out this background check document. Once filled out, you can drop it off at the front office.
Please contact the PTA at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to become involved in one of the committees listed below.
The Auction occurs in the Spring and needs volunteers to get donation items from local businesses, plan student and parent experiences, plan the event, and work at the event. Approximate monthly time commitment: 1 – 20 hours. Visit the Auction page.
Apple Campaign Committee
Apple is our direct giving campaign and is run by two PTA members who approach UPark families for donations. These co-chairs are tasked with tracking the donations, sending letters to the community, publishing flyers, and otherwise promoting the campaign. Visit our Apple Campaign page to learn more. The bulk of the work occurs August through October and is approximately 10 hours/month during that time.
The Garden Committee needs volunteers to tend to the garden, assist with the annual farmer’s market, and otherwise grow the garden program. Learn more about the UPark Garden. Approximate monthly time commitment: 1 – 5 hours.
The Wellness Committee implements the Fun Run program, promotes healthy choices in the school, and solicits healthy food donations from vendors to put in backpacks of families in need. Learn more about the Wellness Program. Approximate monthly time commitment: 1 – 5 hours.
Sustainability and Green Team Support
University Park’s Sustainability aims to reduce waste and use of energy through recycling, composting and reusing. Learn more about the initiative and the school’s Green Team on the Sustainability Page. Approximate weekly time commitment: 1 – 3 hours.
Grant Writing Committee
The Grant Writing Committee identifies opportunities in the community that would be a good fit for UPark, then collaborates with school administration and teachers to write and follow up on these grants. Approximate monthly time commitment: 1 – 5 hours.
Business Sponsorship and Community Partners Chair
This person would identify UPark family businesses and community businesses to sponsor the school, which would include participation in school events, advertising on banners around the school and on our social media, and more. We would like to develop this into a committee that will oversee this process, make sure commitments are being fulfilled, and maintain our relationships with sponsors. Approximate monthly time commitment: 1 – 10 hours.
