What year did you begin teaching?
I began teaching in museum education and enrichment programming around 1995 and then earned my elementary teaching license in 2014 at Creativity, Challenge & Community.

Where did you go to college?
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for an MFA in studio art, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design for my BFA.

If a school day suddenly got canceled, how would you spend the day?
Reading a novel by the fireplace or watching classic movies.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be
Any kid of berry…but especially raspberries!

If you weren’t an educator, what do you think your job would be?
An interior or landscape designer.

What is something your students might be surprised to know about you?
I’m learning to play the ukulele so I can plan it in class, but so far I only know two chords!

What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
My big orange cat makes me laugh out loud every day.  He’s 12 years old but runs around like a crazy kitten!

Black Hills State University – Spearfish, SD – undergraduate Graceland University – Lamoni, IA – graduate.

What is your favorite thing about University Park Elementary?
The talented students, amazing staff, and the arts are valued.

If a school day suddenly got canceled, how would you spend the day?
I would head to the mountains to hike. However, it’s probably more realistic to say I would sleep in and play catch up on work.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Plum tofu.

If you weren’t a teacher, what do you think your job would be?
I would work for an arts non-profit in the educational outreach department.

What year did you enter education?
I have always been teaching! I started teaching as a child in my backyard organizing backyard games with my neighbors.  I also taught swim lessons in high school.  I got my first official teaching job in the public schools in 2001.

Where did you go to college?
BS from University of Wisconsin La Crosse and MS from Western Kentucky University

What is your favorite thing about University Park Elementary?
To Be Determined! – Right now my favorite thing is that I was able to become a new member of the staff this year!  I love that this school has a strong commitment to health and wellness!

If a school day suddenly got canceled, how would you spend the day?
Playing outside!  My family takes every chance we can get to play in the snow, go sledding, and make snowmen.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Reese’s pieces.

If you weren’t a teacher, what do you think your job would be?
If I weren’t a PE teacher I would be a fitness director at a health club or a occupational therapist.
